Adobe Lightroom Training
Image Development & Workflow Confidence
Taking the photograph is only half the story. This is especially true when shooting in RAW, where the camera captures maximum image data but leaves the creative interpretation to you. RAW files are intentionally neutral and require development to express depth, character and intent.
Our Lightroom training is designed to give you full control of your image workflow and development approach, so your photographs reflect your vision — not just what the camera recorded.
We have over 10 years of dedicated Lightroom teaching experience, delivering training to both individuals and groups, including structured Lightroom courses for one of the UK’s largest photographic retailers. Our approach is calm, supportive and practical, focused on helping you understand what your images need and how to achieve it with confidence.
Why Lightroom?
Adobe Lightroom is the industry-standard platform for photographic workflow and image development. It enables you to:
- Organise and manage your image library efficiently
- Develop RAW files with clarity, depth and subtle control
- Shape tonal and colour relationships with precision
- Prepare images for print, web, competition or professional delivery
Used correctly, Lightroom allows your editing to be fast, controlled and repeatable — essential for developing a consistent photographic style.
What You Will Learn
Training is practical, clear and based on working with your images. We may cover:
- Creating a logical folder hierarchy and reliable backup system
- Understanding the Lightroom catalogue and how it references files
- Working confidently with RAW files
- White balance & colour neutrality
- Tonal control: highlights, shadows, contrast and midtone depth
- Texture, clarity and presence for natural detail
- Preparing images for print, portfolio, competition or web
Learning to Recognise What an Image Needs
Rather than moving sliders and hoping for improvement, we teach you to read the image:
- Does it need contrast, depth, separation or softness?
- Where should the viewer’s attention fall?
- Should colour be intensified, restrained or balanced?
Once you understand what the image needs, the appropriate adjustments become clear and deliberate. This builds confidence in your decision-making and helps you develop a consistent, intentional editing style.
A Simple, Structured Development Method
The Five‑Slider Approach
Lightroom offers many controls, but effective development does not require complexity.
We teach a structured five‑slider approach focused on the essential tonal and presence adjustments needed to give your images clarity, depth and balance.
This method ensures your editing is:
- Purposeful – you know why each adjustment is made
- Repeatable – consistent results across genres and subjects
- Controlled – avoiding over‑processing or artificial results
The outcome is intuitive, confident editing that enhances your images without overwhelming them.
